Vegan Sweet and Spicy Bacon Burger
Whataburger's All Time Favorite has been VEGANIZED my friends!
It seems that every time I make a Whataburger it's better than the last! I'm not sure if I'm getting better at it, or if they are! But who gives a rat's patootie, this thing was absolutely DE-FRIGGIN-LICIOUS!
As Whataburger does, we have two 3 oz Beyond Burger Patties, 2 slices of cheese, in this case cheddar and smoked gouda, grilled onions, vegan bacon, mustard and then of course the star of the show, the Sweet and Spicy sauce! Since I haven't had one of these, I had to look up the ingredients for the sauce. Besides all the weird chemical stuff, the ingredients I recognized was tomato concentrate, jalapenos and apple concentrate! Weird right? Well the last jar of my Bee Free Honee is made from apples so I used that. You could totally just use agave or maple syrup and it'd be fine I bet!
In any case this is one of the best burgers I've had in a LOOOONG time! Why dontcha make it and see for yourself eh?!
Two (3 oz.) patties of plant-based meat
Two Slices of Vegan Cheese (try to use 1 white and 1 yellow (cheddar) cheese)
1 Big Hamburger Bun
Half a small onion (diced)
2 pieces of vegan bacon (diced)
2 Tbsp yellow mustard
Sweet and Spicy Sauce
1 Tbsp ketchup
1 Tbsp vegan honey (agave or maple syrup will work)
1 Tbsp chopped chipotles in adobo sauce
Combine ingredients for the sweet and spicy sauce and set aside.
Grill your onions and bacon over medium heat in some oil
After a few minutes add your buns to the pan and grill until golden brown.
Season the patties as you wish, then add to the pan over medium high heat. Grill on each side for about 3 minutes or until you have some nice CRUSTIFICATION.
When you flip the patties, add the white slice of cheese to one, and the cheddar slice to the other patty and cover with a melting dome.
After the Cheese is melted, remove from pan, and assemble from bottom to top as follow: mustard, patty with cheddar cheese, patty with white cheese, onions, bacon, sweet and spicy sauce, top with the top bun!
