Vegan Philly Cheesesteak Fries

All the taste of a Philly Cheesesteak, but piled on some fries so you can share with some buds! And as always 100% VEGAN!


Maybe it's because I'm from California, but I never really had a lot of Philly Cheesesteaks before going vegan. I'm not sure why though, literally every component is delicious, so as a vegan I will be making up for lost time and creating a bunch of Philly Cheesesteak dishes! Since the Super Bowl is coming up, I figured I'd make something that was easy to share with some friends, and thus PHILLY CHEESESTEAK FRIES!


I used some bagged Steak Fries, it seemed appropriate, but you could use any fries you like, even waffle fries would be a good idea! For the steak I used Gardein's Beefless Tips. Then I just grilled some onions and green bell peppers, and doused it in a healthy helping of my cheese sauce and it was ZIP ZAPPIN delicious!



RECIPE

  • 1 bag frozen fries

  • 2 packages Gardein Beefless Tips

  • 2 medium onions (roughly chopped)

  • 1 green bell pepper (roughly chopped)

  • 2 sliced green onions (for topping)


Cheese Sauce


  • 1/4 cup vegan butter

  • 3 Tbsp Flour

  • 2 cups plant-milk

  • 8 oz vegan cheese shreds

  • 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt & pepper to taste


INSTRUCTIONS


  1. Preheat oven. Cook fries according to package instructions.

  2. While fries are cooking, let's make the onions, pepper and beefless tips.

  3. With a bit of oil over medium heat, add your onions and bell pepper to a pan and cook until the bell peppers are slightly browned and charred, and the onions are brown as well. Set heat to low once they look good.

  4. In another pan, heat your beefless tips in some oil over medium heat. Once they are cooked through, remove from the pan, slice them up a bit and then return to the pan and cook until they have browned a bit. Set on low.

  5. Now let's make the cheese sauce. Melt butter in a pot over medium heat.

  6. Add flour a tablespoon at a time and whisk in between each tablespoon. Once all flour has been added whisk thoroughly and cook for 1 minute.

  7. Add plant milk 1/2 cup at a time and whisk in between each 1/2 cup. Bring to a simmer.

  8. Add vegan cheese and stir until melted.

  9. Add all the seasonings, stir to combine, and keep warm on low.

  10. Once the fries are cooked, add half of your onions, bell pepper and beefless tips on top of the fries. Then top with half the cheese sauce. Repeat and bask in the glorious cheesy beefy golden fried goodness and dig in!

  11. ENJOY!
