Spicy Vegan Big Mac


It's like a Vegan Big Mac, BUT Spicy!


There isn't much to say about this, it's pretty simple! A classic Big Mac style burger but with a few modifications. I've made this a few ways before, it's very customizable to whatever you like. I usually sub the pickles for grilled jalapeños, though I bet pickled jalapeños would work too! Then I will spice up the Big Mac sauce. This last time I made it, I used some of the Hot Ones sauces, like the Last Dab and Da Bomb. But use whatever you have at your disposal!



I've done it with cilantro or pickled onions, you can season the patties with taco seasoning, or ghost pepper seasoning, cayenne, whatever! In the video below I chop up some Toreado peppers and blend them into the burger patties. Feel free to use Pepper Jack cheese, literally, just do whatever you like to make it as spicy as you like!


I totally forgot to use onions and cilantro in the video, but it was so good regardless, so don't sweat it if you don't have any, or don't care for them either! Seriously, this is super customizable, add whatever you like. Just make sure the end result is a SPICY BIG MAC!


This thing might actually be better than the original Big Mac recipe. Maybe I'm a sucker for spicy stuff, but to me, this hit all the notes of the classic burger and then some with the added heat! If you like spicy, this is for you!

RECIPE

Makes 1 Sandwich

  • 6 ounces of plant based meat, formed into 2 equal sized patties

  • 2 slices vegan cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and sliced

  • 2 Tbsp chopped onion

  • 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)

  • 1 sesame bun + bottom half of another bun

  • Chopped toreado or chipotle peppers (optional)

  • Taco seasoning / cayenne / ghost pepper seasoning to taste

Spicy Big Mac Sauce

  • 1/3 cup vegan mayo

  • 2 Tbsp ketchup

  • 1 Tbsp mustard

  • 1 Tbsp sweet relish

  • 1 Tbsp diced chipotles in adobo

  • Hot sauce of choice to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine ingredients for Spicy Big Mac sauce and set aside.

  2. Chop your lettuce, onions and cilantro and set aside.

  3. Slice the jalapeño into rings.

  4. ⁣⁣⁣⁣To prepare your middle bun, use a serrated knife and shave off just the bottom of the extra bottom bun. ⁣⁣⁣

  5. Make your burger mixture by combining your plant based meat with any seasonings or chopped peppers that you like.

  6. Press your burger patties so they match the circumference of your buns.

  7. Grill buns in a bit of oil or vegan butter until golden brown. Set aside. ⁣⁣⁣

  8. Grill jalapeño rings over medium heat for a few minutes until they are nice and charred. Set aside.

  9. Then over medium high heat, grill your burger patties for 3-4 minutes. ⁣⁣⁣

  10. After you flip the patties, add a slice of cheese to each, then add a few splashes of water to the pan, and cover to melt.

  11. Once Cheese is melted, assemble as follows; bottom bun, Spicy Big Mac Sauce, lettuce, patty w/ cheese, middle bun, more sauce, lettuce, cilantro, jalapeños, patty, onions, more sauce, top bun. ⁣⁣⁣

  12. ENJOY!⁣⁣
